Dr. Vinh Chung was born in Vietnam, not long after the fall of Saigon. His family left Vietnam as refugees who fled Communist oppression. He grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas, as one of eleven children. He was an All-State football player and graduated valedictorian of his high school. The story of his family’s survival and his early years is chronicled in his memoir, Where the Wind Leads.
Dr. Chung went on to Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in biology. He married his high school sweetheart, Leisle, and they both attended the University of Edinburgh in Scotland to study theology.

He completed his internal medicine year at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, a lower income community where he had volunteered extensively throughout his college years. He did his residency at Emory School of Medicine, where he was chief resident. He also completed his Mohs surgery fellowship at Emory. This is the highest level of training for specialization in the treatment of skin cancer.
After living in Scotland, Australia, and different parts of the US, Vinh and Leisle Chung moved to Colorado Springs to lay down roots and raise a family.
