Dr. Vinh Chung specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. He completed his BA in biology at Harvard University, graduating magna cum laude, and earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School.
During his medical studies, Dr. Chung studied at the University of Sydney as a Fulbright Scholar. In addition, he earned a master's of theology from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
Dr. Chung is a recipient of the Theodore Tromovitch Award, awarded to 1-2 Mohs fellows annually by the American College of Mohs Surgery. His research has been published in leading national medical publications, and he received the Young Investigator’s Award from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
In addition, Dr. Chung has been named a “Top Doc” every year since 2011 by Colorado Springs Style magazine.
Dr. Chung’s memoir, Where the Wind Leads, is available on amazon.com, bn.com, and everywhere books and ebooks are sold. He has served on the board of directors for World Vision. He lives in Colorado Springs with his wife and four children.
PERSONAL HISTORY
Dr. Vinh Chung was born in Vietnam, not long after the fall of Saigon. His family left Vietnam as refugees who fled Communist oppression. He grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas, as one of eleven children. He was an All-State football player and graduated valedictorian of his high school. The story of his family’s survival and his early years is chronicled in his memoir, Where the Wind Leads.
Dr. Chung went on to Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in biology. He married his high school sweetheart, Leisle, and they both attended the University of Edinburgh in Scotland to study theology.
They also lived in Australia, where Dr. Chung completed a master's of pharmaceutical science at the University of Sydney as a Fulbright Scholar. He played for the Sydney American football team amidst his studies.
Dr. Chung earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his internal medicine year at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, a lower income community where he had volunteered extensively throughout his college years. He did his residency at Emory School of Medicine, where he was chief resident. He also completed his Mohs surgery fellowship at Emory. This is the highest level of training for specialization in the treatment of skin cancer.
After living in Scotland, Australia, and different parts of the US, Vinh and Leisle Chung moved to Colorado Springs to lay down roots and raise a family. In 2009 they opened Vanguard Skin Specialists. They wanted to create a medical center of excellence guided by a vision to make a positive impact on their patients, their community, and the world at large.
Dr. Chung and his wife continue to work together today. He oversees the clinical team, while she oversees the administrative team. They have four children.
