Dermatology Physician Assistant
Rachel Frederickson has been a board-certified dermatology physician assistant (PA-C) since 2002. She specializes in medical dermatology for the whole family, offering a gentle and thorough approach in caring for her patients’ skin concerns. Her specialties include skin cancer screenings and biopsies, acne, rosacea, eczema, and allergy testing for contact dermatitis and rashes.
Rachel takes a holistic perspective, working alongside her patients, tailoring treatments to meet their individual wants and needs. She is enthusiastic in caring for the whole person.
As someone who loves the outdoors, Rachel understands the full impact of daily high altitude sun exposure on the skin. By welcoming questions and promoting a dialogue with her patients, Rachel believes that knowledge gives them power to control their own skin health. She loves her profession and is passionate about providing excellent patient care and education.
Rachel is a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and a member of the Colorado Association of Dermatology Professionals. She has earned her diplomate status through the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, which indicates extensive continuing medical education. It is also the highest honor one can achieve as a dermatology physician assistant.
In 2016, Rachel coauthored the study “Pediatric Contact Dermatitis Registry Inaugural Case Data,” Dermatitis: September/October 2016 - Volume 27 - Issue 5 - p 293–302; an in-depth analysis of the prevalence of chemical allergies in children.
PERSONAL HISTORY
Rachel graduated with a BS in cell biology and anatomy from the University of Illinois–Champaign-Urbana. As an undergrad, Rachel received her EMT (emergency medical technician) certification and worked for two years in a local hospital. In 2002, she graduated magna cum laude with a degree in physician assistant studies from Midwestern University College of Health Sciences in suburban Chicago.
Rachel practiced medical and surgical dermatology for years in Chicago before following her lifelong dream of moving to the beautiful state of Colorado in 2012, when she joined Vanguard.
Rachel can sympathize with families who struggle with eczema and food allergies or intolerances, as she manages these problems in her household on a daily basis. She enjoys allergen-free cooking and baking, traveling, hiking, and exploring nature with her husband, two sons, and their dog Yoshi.
Passionate about international missions, Rachel and her husband have worked in Ecuador with Global Health Outreach. They are the team leaders for Vanguard's project in Haiti, taking teams to volunteer in Port au Prince. They have also traveled to six continents and have many more adventures on their bucket list.
