Welcome to Vanguard's Pre-Health Program, where driven individuals unite with the shared journey of applying to graduate programs, guided by our experienced physicians and APPs. To date, more than 30 participants from our Pre-Health program have successfully transitioned into esteemed medical professions, including MDs, DOs, physician assistants, and anesthesiology assistants. Join us on your path to a fulfilling medical career!
What is the Pre-Health Program?
Designed for college graduates who are interested in a long-term medical career, Vanguard offers a 2-year Pre-health program. We offer paid, hands-on clinical experience working with a diverse group of MD’s, NP’s, and PA’s. This is not an internship or volunteer position; our pre-health staff members are full-time, paid employees.
- Our pre-health team members not only gain clinical experience, but they also develop as professionals in the medical field.
- Throughout the year, we offer different pre-health meetings and events, such as info sessions about applying to different health fields, Q&A sessions about choosing PA vs. NP vs. MD fields, mock interviews with our providers, and a suture clinic with our plastic surgeons.
- Team members who remain 2 or more years are eligible for a stipend to help apply for graduate school applications and more senior job opportunities.
- Our practice also offers volunteer opportunities throughout the year, both in the local communities we serve and abroad.
Our medical assistants join us from various backgrounds - there is no “right” major, but someone with potential to go on to a graduate medical program is ideal. Our people do share some common qualities including excellent academic performance, leadership abilities, and experience working on or off campus. We look for curious thinkers with potential—we will teach you the rest!
Our supportive team values your contributions and encourages you to take on additional responsibilities. From assisting in specialized procedures to taking a leadership role in patient care coordination, there's always room for you to step into a more challenging and rewarding position. Coaching and mentorship is an integral part of your development at Vanguard; peers will give you feedback, and providers will help you grow and plan the next several years of your education and career.
