BOTOX® Cosmetic
& Other Neurotoxins

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles to soften expression lines and prevent new ones from forming. It belongs to a class of medications called neurotoxins or neuromodulators, which work by gently blocking the nerve signals that cause muscle contractions. When administered by skilled injectors, the result is a smoother, more refreshed appearance that still looks natural.

Other Types of Neurotoxins

Several FDA-approved neurotoxins are available today, each with unique characteristics but similar mechanisms of action. Our team will help determine which option best fits your goals and anatomy.

Common types of neurotoxins include:

What Neurotoxins Treat

Neuromodulators are best suited for dynamic wrinkles—lines caused by repetitive facial movements. They can:

  • Soften frown lines (“11s”) between the brow
  • Smooth crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Relax forehead creases
  • Lift the brows for a more open look
  • Refine a downturned mouth or dimpling of the chin

What to Expect from Your Treatment

Your Vanguard aesthetic provider will begin with a personalized consultation to evaluate your goals and facial anatomy.

  • Treatment Time: Most sessions take 10–20 minutes and require no anesthesia.
  • Downtime: Virtually none! You may resume normal activities immediately, though we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, rubbing the area, or lying flat for 4 hours.
  • Results: Initial results appear within 3–5 days, with full effect at 10–14 days.
  • Series & Maintenance: Results typically last 3–4 months. Regular maintenance sessions help sustain a natural, refreshed look year-round.

What Do Neurotoxins Pair Well With?

To enhance overall rejuvenation, neurotoxins pair beautifully with complementary treatments such as:
